ARE YOU AWARE? Everyday, 36 children are diagnosed with cancer and 7 children die from it. President Obama has declared, by Presidential Proclamation, that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

ARE YOU AWARE? Cancer doesn’t care about age, ethnicity, or economic status. Cancer can happen to ANY child. It happened to one of The Chief’s little buddies, Ava.

ARE YOU AWARE? Ava was like any normal 2½ year old, an abundance of energy and giggles. In November 2011, Ava became very ill and had a fever for 4 days. Her doctors ran blood tests and the results were not normal. On December 9, 2011 she was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (A.L.L.).

Of the 12 major childhood cancers, about one-third of them are leukemias… with A.L.L. being the most common type of leukemia.

ARE YOU AWARE? Childhood Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under age 15.  The causes are unknown, it cannot be prevented, and there is no cure. Despite this reality, cancer research is extremely underfunded.

ARE YOU AWARE? You can help by donating to a local children’s cancer charity,  donating blood, and spreading childhood cancer awareness.

Ava has completed over 9 months of the grueling chemotherapy on her little body and she is now on the last phase of her treatment. Her chemotherapy treatment will end on March 21, 2014, just before her 5th birthday. Please keep her in your prayers.
